Hello all; I plan to purchase a Uniden Bearcat BC346XT, found at the link below, for use in the NYC area. I plan to use Freescan to program it myself, but I was curious to know whether or not the Serial to USB Adapter cable below would be compatible. It seems as if it has the correct chipset. Any help is appreciated, thank you! :D

Also, would it just be worth it to go with the official Uniden cable?

Any RS-232 to USB adapter should work fine, as long as it's drivers will work with your computer's OS.

I have a 996T upstairs in my wife's sewing room. I use Freescan to program it and use a RS232 - USB adapter without any problems. But I don't use Uniden's software, to hard to figure out. It was cheaper than adding a card but it does use one of my scarce USB ports.

I bought a similar adapter for my BCT15X and don't have any problems with it. I did, however, have to download a different driver from Staples for the adapter as the one on the CD was incompatible with my OS (Thank you, Office Max). It is hooked to my scanner as I type this, broadcasting the feed where I live.

I use Keyspan, with no issues.

You didn't state what your O/S is, but with my Windows 7 64bit machine, it does not like the Uniden direct USB cable. It, however, works fine with the Keyspan serial adaptor and the Uniden serial cable.
