'Rampage' At Utah State Helps Emergency Crews

A simulated shooting rampage was held on the campus of Utah State University on Sept. 29, 2007 to help emergency teams prepare for a real life disaster. LOGAN - Four men went on a shooting "rampage" at Utah State University on Saturday -- which was actually a planned drill to help emergency workers prepare for a future disaster, that they hope never happens.

Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams, firefighters and emergency medical teams participated in the drill -- which simulated a shooting rampage on the school's campus during a gymnastics event.

The men were armed with automatic weapons, handguns and explosive devices as they entered the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday morning. Dozens of victims were injured in the exercise -- which is designed to test the emergency response capabilities of the university, Logan Police, Cache County authorities and even the Utah National Guard.

Though fictional, the rampage reflects the type of situation first responders may be faced with at some time in the future.

Follow the link to read the rest of the story. I think it is rather strange that about three weeks ago we started discussing hearing Logan PD in an unexplained way and then this happens and not one single peep about it. I wish we could find a way to monitor them from here in the SL Valley, but I guess that might be asking too much.

I also want to explain that I put this here in the open forum instead of the Incidents and Breaking News because this is an anomaly. Mostly I am curious if ANYONE did hear the comms and besides, it was just staged.

I didn't have my radios on the entire day. I had also shut down Trunker, so I missed all the action that occured yesterday.

I was a "victim" in the USU mass casualty drill. What a way to spend a weekend.

Whoa! I think you need to be thanked for helping keep our people up to date on procedures and letting them get some idea of what they could have to deal with some day. Better this way than under fire.

That being said, WELCOME ABOARD, 53LAIN!

Go ahead and introduce yourself. Where are you located (Well, DUH...obviously in the Logan area, but actually, we urge you to go to your profile page and enter your location there so it will show on all your posts.), what kind of equipment do you run, and what brought you to RR.com?

We are glad to have you here and hope we can help you and that you can help us. We need someone in the Logan area that will visit this board often.
