Bcd996p2 scanner I listen to State police troop k troop e and troop d and was wondering why my signal from day to day goes from 5 bars to some days only 3 bars and only received them when 4 or 5 bars.Anything less I do not receive them. I do have a small outside antenna which is a Mobil loaded antenna.

It may depend upon where the mobile units are located and their Affiliation with various sites.

There are certain times when sites closest to you aren't carrying any traffic.

Observe which sites you are receiving as you monitor.

Good luck! 👍

Your previous post last year,
Ok. tried a mobile antenna outside on porch post and aimed it towards where the tower is and now getting awesome 5 6 bars .hearing troop D and E. Without a problem,Thank you

Has anything with your coax or antenna changed since October ? Is it still aimed the same way?

Some days it is fine then when I haven't heard the channels in a while I check it and the signal strength is down on those stations then it comes back

I read what you wanted me to read and makes a Little more sense but would that have a effect on the signal strength on that particular channel? Like from 5 bars to 3 bars.if it showed 5 bars I pick theme up ok and 3 bars I here nothing on those channels

There is a regional forum you can check also. Once in Forums scroll down to Regional (it’s a ways down the list) and look for the Connecticut forum page.

Are there any big obstructions between your antenna and the tower? All of the sites are 7/800MHz. What kind of antenna is it you are using? Is the antenna tuned for that range? What county are you in?

Sounds to me like a typical multi-site trunked system. Where systems aren't locked to one site. Sometimes you'll hear a close site, sometimes a not so close site. Also, even on just 1 site, the antennas are typically spaced up and down the tower, so one time the channel is the top antenna and another it is a lower antenna.

I get the same thing here in Colorado with the statewide system. It's a P25, phase 1 system with no simulcast. On my SDS200, one time the signal is strong, then, the next time it's not as strong. Both times it is coming from the same tower, but I presume from different physical antennas on the tower.

there is the nasty 'S' word.

and again Simulcast pops up again.
just that alone can be the reason.
my county is on a 700 phase 2 simulcast but some are running phase1 and the signal does the same thing.

It all depends on when they schedule the flights to release chemtrails laced with metal particles over New England.

If you want to research the "why" more, Google the term Radio Propagation.

Signals will often change from day-to-day or even hour-to-hour or minute-to-minute for a lot of reasons including changes in the atmosphere.

A lot of that Google search will show effects of ionospheric effects, but the same thing happens when signals travel along the ground.

One such example: I often will hear signals far more distant than I usually can in the morning when the fog lifts. The fog acts like a reflector and reflects those signals back at the ground - in the direction of my antenna.

Even rain, snow, or similar things can attenuate radio signal strength. Many satellite TV users found this out when they see their service disrupted during storms.
