Numerous times while traveling the PA turnpike, I have noticed the 'Silo' that is located about 2-3 miles west of the Route 100 interchange. Attached is a building as well.

location: 40.084354,-75.71688

The 'silo' is obviously an antenna tower. Appears to be a 'single user' site.

Any ideas who the user is on this ?

Google satellite has a nice view of this.

thanks

Assuming your coordinates are correct, here are some FCC-licensed entities nearby there:

FCC Callsign Proximity Search: N 40.084354 W -75.71688 Range: 4

Of course that didn't help you much, since none of those licenses are for anything on that silo. Are you sure that silo is an antenna tower? I'm wondering if it's not a cellular site. Are there a lot of horizontally oriented, somewhat downward tilting rectangular panels spread evenly around the top?

hello mtindor, thanks for the reply and the link.

- Click on the link provided

- 'zoom' three clicks (+)

- click 'hybrid'

- note, 76 turnpike symbol

- zoom to this symbol

you will see the 'silo'

I looked at this for a couple of years.

I always thought that it looked odd. Finally looked between the 'silo' and the building.

One level of cable tray is all that goes between the building and the 'silo'.

The 'dome' on the silo, due to it's vertical dimension, indicates that only one set of antenna would be inside.

It could be cellular, however it certaintly was constructed to look exactly like a silo, which it is not.

That is a pretty nice Google satellite view of it. It definitely looks like a silo, but more importantly I think I can see where it is made to "look like" a silo but really isn't one - which your seeing a cable tray between the building and silo would seem to back up.

Whoever it is, it's either going to be an unlicensed agency (fed) or cellular I think. And it would not be uncommon to see a disguised structure in the city where ordinances and public opinion cause companies to have to make the structure blend in with the surroundings... but out in the farmland you wouldn't think so. I do wonder if it is simply a cellular install and that the cell company had to create it in such a way that it fits in with its surroundings (farmland). Maybe the cell company leases the space off of a farmer who told them that they could put up a cell site as long as it didn't look like an obnoxious cell site.

Agreed. I would have thought that if all the money ventured (all concrete sides), would have allowed for expansion to a 'shared' site.

This is the first time I have attempted to do any research.

Next trip through, I will try to exit 76 and look for ID at the site.

Cool, I'm curious. And you're right, looks like a rather expensive endeavor for a private / non-shared site. Let us know if you find out what it is.

It is a cell site. I was driving to the Exton area while it was being constructed a couple years ago and saw some wireless providers vehicles there setting up equipment. There is a similar silo cell site on 322 just west of 72 in Lebanon county. In my opinion its not much different than those stupid "trees" along the turnpike near Philadelphia.

I was told the state/county/township or whatever PA is made up of didnt want an eyesore on the community. A silo was built in a towers place. In the heart of farming country it was an obvious choice. I love driving by that.
