• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is Simplex allowed on the 467MHZ GMRS repeater input channels? Was running through the scanner the other day and heard a small group of users on 467.625 and sometimes .650 mentioning it being safe from all the people with walmart radios. Also checked on the wiki and apparently they are listes as Common Use and/or Repeater Input. General Mobile Radio Service - The RadioReference Wiki

While I understand the sentiment I always recall that being against FCC regulation in the USA

Simplex on repeater channels is poor operating practice.

Using GMRS channels without a license is illegal (as you already know).

And using repeater inputs for simplex comms is illegal, even if one does have a license.

The applicable Part 95 section:
(b) For a mobile station, control station,
or fixed station operated in the
duplex mode, the following 467 MHz
channels may be used only to transmit
communications through a repeater
station and for remotely controlling a
repeater station. The licensee of the
GMRS system must select the transmitting
channels or channel pairs (see
§95.7(a) of this part) for the stations
operated in the duplex mode, from the
following 467 MHz channels:
467.5500, 467.5750, 467.6000, 467.6250, 467.6500,
467.6750, 467.7000 and 467.7250.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i think if you hold a commercial repeater license you can use either frequency as simplex but it depends on if your repeater is input high or low.. Usually you want to input high and output low and use the low as simplex but I have seen system in reverse.
GMRS you have to follow the rules since frequencies are predetermined and such
