• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was issued a SL7550e radio for use at work. It came with a Motorola bluetooth earpiece (HX800?), similar in design to one that you would use with a phone.
So there are no issues with pairing and using the Motorola earpiece. The same earpiece will also pair to my phone.
The issue is that any other bluetooth device I attempt to use will not pair with the SL handheld. I have numerous other earpieces that all pair easily to my phone or to other phones.
Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening? From all I've read of this handheld it is supposed to be v4.0 bluetooth, and I would imagine ANY earpiece should pair and operate.
Is this a matter of only certain high end bluetooths will only work? Is it only Motorola bluetooths that will pair? Will appreciate any direction anyone could point me towards.
Thanks

You're pretty much locked to Motorola Solutions Bluetooth stuff. BT for two way radio is a mess, but that's because BT is designed for phones. PTT isn't part of the standard. Even 3rd party BT stuff designed for two way radio doesn't work with Motorola, at least that's what the 3rd parties told us.

Oh wonderful.
So here's something else. Got a coworker thats a ham also. He says that he was able to pair up his plantronics bluetooth to the radio, downside is constant battery drain as it basically leaves to BT on at all times to receive and transmit. He also said that from his research newer BT devices have a "LE" designation, something to do with transfer of data thru the BT, seems to lower data transfer (?) to make the BT opporate more efficiently/faster. And apparently thats why his BT can pair to it all. From what I looked at BT 4.0 has this data function taking place. Wondering if I got a 3.0 or 2.0 BT if that would work.
Then my other question is will any Motorola BT work with the radio.

I use my Aftershocks with my SL7550 (please note, not the enhanced version). Bluetooth 4.0LE is a low energy protocol. Allows for greater battery life but sacrifices data throughput by operating the connection similarly to a DMR radio. It’s really centered around IoT applications.
