• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've been in CB for years, but was never concerned too much about the antenna size. Now, I'm considering putting a CB in another car, but I really don't want a big antenna on the car.
Does anyone know of a decent CB antenna that is around or less than 18 inches in length? The only ones I've used in the past were the glass mount CB antennas, & those suck. Thanks all.

There are no good CB antennas around that size. Just think the antenna should be 102" long with a 6" spring. Total 108" 10 times the length of what you're looking for. And if you are really trying to talk any distance you will need at least 4' to get 3-5 miles. If you want small get a K-30 or Lil Wil. They are the best small antennas. In the CB world Bigger is better!

I think it depends on if you're talking or just want to listen.
If you wanna talk, you're gonna need a good antenna, with at least 3 to 4 foot length to it.
If you're just wanting to hear the truckers up and down the road, a shortie should suffice.
But even the shortie needs to be outside the car. I myself am not aware of any cb antennas made that are shorter than a couple of feet.

Thanks for the links. I don't care about maximum talk distance, 95% of my contacts would be a mile or less. Receive range a bit more important. Don't want this car to be bristling with big antennas. I already have a car like that.

I have a magnetic-base 35-inch K30 antenna on the trunk lid of my sedan. I cut it to about 32.5-inches to get the SWRs into an effective range for my Mazda's ground plane. The antenna is about as long as I can have and yet clear my garage door without hitting. This little workhorse works really good for my purpose, ie, receiving and giving info on road hazards, traffic jam avoidance, etc.
