It has been happening frequently on certain frequencies common to both or because the signal is broadcast over home wiring.

Sometimes it is loud pops and cracks on AM radios and baby monitors; sometimes it is wireless speaker systems and wireless headsets receiving loud pops and crackling.

Owners of HDTVs and remote garage door openers also reported interference.

"Our portable phones started crackling and popping after the SmartMeter was installed. "... I think the SmartMeter is interfering with our wireless phones."

P G & E Smart Meters

The P G & E Smart Gas Meters operate on 451 & 456 MHz around here.
The gas meters have a 20 year battery in them. I have not heard any transmissions yet
using my scanner.

Looks like P G & E is the new 'Ricochet' on 900 MHz.

I have several 900 MHz FHSS part 15 modems but no one to talk to.
I believe you live in Rancho Cordova, you want to try one? Maybe we can
connect and give P G & E some.

Anyone who does not run the power for his HDTV through a reliable filtering device, such as a good UPS, is taking a chance of losing the TV to all the crap that comes in on typical house wiring. That HDTV is a computer with a big display and a digital tuner and should have the same protection as your home computer.

This article has nothing to do with what comes in over house wiring. This has to do with the fact that SmartMeters use RF to transmit data and THAT interferes with all kinds of equipment.

Not all smart meters use RF technology. Most in our part of the country are power line carrier.
