• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I have looked in everywhere in my manual, Radio settings and also on win 500 and I am unable to determine what software version is in my PSR 500..It's still the factory firmware as I have not upgraded it but I still would like to know if I need to upgrade it and how to tell what kind is in it before and also after I upgrade it.. Does anyone know how to check and see what version is in it currently directly from the factory and does anyone agree that I should upgrade it to version 1.3? if that's the latest.. Please let me know what I should do, thanks,

Download the new 1.3 CPU upgrade first from the GRE support website. Then click the file and it will perform a test and tell you the current CPU PRIOR to upgrading. It will walk you through the upgrade process.

Do the same for the DSP upgrade. GRE recommends upgrading the CPU first. They also list the "fixes" in each of the upgrades.

Link for CPU.. http://www.greamerica.com/support/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=22

Link for DSP... http://www.greamerica.com/support/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=20

Alternatively, turn the scanner off, and then on. While the welcome screen is displayed, press the number 3 key. That will show you the CPU and DSP versions.

How about reading the the sticky on just that, you can find them at the top of the GRE forum, Or go to the GRE page where you got your updates and if you look on the right side of the page under latest news it will tell you.
