Hi Everyone,

I have a Uniden 996 xt and I would like to program via software...however I am using a Mac computer, is there any programming software that will run on a Mac. Any info you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The only programing software that I know of, that is not radio specific, is Chirp.
Home - CHIRP
All of my computers are Apples, with one exception. It is a used Vista desktop. It's one and only task is to program my ham radios and my scanners. I have it for no other reason. I know absolutely nothing about Windows and really have no wish to learn. Radio support for MacIntosh is almost nonexistent. There are some ham related softwares for logging, external control, etc. But they are few. I have Chirp on a MacBook but, rarely have used it. Probably your best bet is to find a used Windows unit, and proceed from there. That's what I ended up having to do, even though I didn't want to. Hope this is of some help to you. If I can further assist, let me know.

I hope a company gets smart and builds in networking on the radio and makes a web interface on the scanner.. Will make the Mac people and Linux people happy..

Instead of getting a dedicated Windows box, get a copy of Windows and run Sun VirtualBox software and load said copy of Windows on it. That's how I program my Unidens. It takes a little while to set up, but it's worth it for me.

This is the only reason I have a Windows laptop. Everything else I own is Mac/Apple. The laptop is used only to program pagers and do firmware updates for the scanners (I do use Freescan o create backup files in case of something happening during the firmware updates but I still program the scanners by hand).

I really wish a lot of the things I use the laptop for could be done on a Mac as well but unfortunately there's far more people running Windows so I guess it's not worth it to take the time to put out the Mac versions. Don't get me wrong. I'd be thrilled but doubt well ever see it. :( A Windows emulator is an option but I've used them before and didn't really care to have them on there so on this one I've decided the laptop is the better option right now.
