• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello, looking for information I found these forums, which I am pleased about since I find it very interesting. The issue is that March 2019 I bought a KENWOOD NX3820 station which I use for radio amateurs, then I bought the KPG-D3E software with its corresponding license, in September of that same year a new version of the KPG-D3E and a new firmware came out, which my distributor provided me for a low price, today I see that there is a new version and my distributor provides me the firmware for the equipment for free, but the KPG-D3E software does not give me the option of being able to buy alone the update of the program, and he tells me that if I want the new update he can only provide it to me by buying a new license again, which I already bought the first time, and I do not understand why I cannot buy the new update without having to pay again for a license that I already have, my question is if this practice is normal, or on the contrary they want to take advantage of me, also I have loaded the new version of firmware v 3.31 on my NX 3820 and now the KPG-D3 v er 3.00 does not recognize it, that is to say that I must be obliged to buy the new Software. Thank you very much

You may want to talk to the Kenwood rep in your country directly.

Here in the USA, some dealers will send you the software/firmware updates free. However, it depends on the relationship with the dealer and the user skill level. Many dealers don't want to put firmware or software updates in the hands of the end user as it's not only a bit risky if it's not done right, but it can also subtract from their own profits. After all, dealers are in business to make money, and giving away things for free isn't good business practice. In the USA, the firmware/software updates are available to the dealers for free. There is no method to provide those to the end user, though. The only way to access them is from the Kenwood Dealer Tools website. End users don't have access to that, only the dealers.

You could always contact another dealer in your country and see if they'll work with you.

Thank you very much for answering, I have managed to get the distributor to sell me only the KPG-D3 software ver: 3.31, but it does not assure me if it will work with the license I have of version 3.00 and now I have a doubt, you know if this new version KPG-D3E version 3.31 will work with my license? I have to say that I acquired this license with version 1.4 and it worked correctly when I updated to version 3.00 but I have a doubt if with this new version I will need a specific license that corresponds with that new update.

if you have a D3 license key, that key will work with any version your key is assigned to (D3N or D3E as an example)
you can upgrade your D3 continuously with said key, and it will work with any version of D3 in production.
so you got your key at 3.00, and you get 3.31, no problem, just update D3 and carry on. You're good to go.
