Am now considering the 8600. I know I said I would not but things have changed. Will be selling my R8500 and R75 tomorrow and back on the hunt. Looking at the 705, 7300 and the 8600. My question for you owners is what kind of software are you using when hooked up to your pc? I would want decoding option in the software (not encryption). Waterfall too. Am looking into software options for the other radios too. As much as the price of a 8600 bites, getting this feeling if I try anything else I will regret it. Used to own the 705 and sold it. Once the sale goes through, then will order whatever I decide will work best for me. Appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks.

I have the R8600 and the 705, love them both. The R8600 is the best HF receiver I have ever owned, followed closely by the 705.

By this fall I hope to get a 7300 so I can more easily use the 705 in the field instead of having to keep swapping it around.

I have the Icom software for the 8600 and tried it a time or two. It seems to work fine. I had to dig out a CD drive to install it, they only sell it on CD, no downloads or flash drives and none of my computers have an optical drive.

I have had good luck with RT Systems software in the past I might give that a try.

I am not aware of any software that will do both. For controlling the radio you can go with Win4Icom or Icom's software but they are not free. As for decoding it depends on what you want to decode but you will need some other software (a lot are free and some require to buy a licence) I think the wiki page contains a section on some of the available software to decode.

My OEM CD, new, would not read. I found it is Japanese and US region drives won't read it.
My recourse was downloading from Icom America.

Got it this morning. Similar to the IC705 I used to have but much more on the 8600. Have allot to learn. Currently using my astron power supply. Anyone know if the wall wart is better to use or about the same?

I have used them all for my R30 and R8600. I prefer RT Systems for importing from on-line resources, but highly prefer the Icom software otherwise.

I will probably get the Icom software. I have it for the R30 and works great. Guess I will have to copy and paste between the R30 and the R8600. Have my R30 setup real good that I would want all of it on the R8600.

I used the ICOM software for my R30 but I don't have a 8600, however I am guessing you can use the export feature of the ICOM R30 software and use the import feature of the ICOM 8600 to load the data into the 8600. Both use CSV files for import and export and I think since the memory architecture is the same on both receivers, the export/import fields in the CSV files should be the same.

Real easy to test if they are --- do an export from the R30, look at the first record which has field names. Do the same with the 8600 and see if they match.

According to your link, that software is for Mac only. Can't find it on the app store on my Ipad.
