• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Not a two-way radio antenna, just the factory AM/FM broadcast radio antenna, but ouch

I had a certain LE agency that at one time long ago was on low band. Quarter wave antennas on a 8 ball mounted to the side of the rear fender. Solid Motorola stuff. Took a car to the car wash. By the time they extricated the car from the overhead revolving brush the whip was bent into a curley-Q well beyond 360' and the spring now was a good 12 inches or more in length.

What automatic car wash the past fifty years didn’t require removing antennas? Haven’t seen one.

Have you ever seen a cop washing their own cars? Can't say I have except maybe on a very rare occasion? Unless you get some schmuck doing community service they take them down to the local car wash. Really they go through relatively unscathed. And who is going to argue with Jonny Law?

This looks like an aluminum bodied F-150. I replaced my factory antenna with a flexible stubby to avoid this kind of damage. Of course mag mounts won't work but lip mounted under the hood works well enough.

And no sign advising such? Never seen one without that as it’s affixed to a damage waiver statement re facilities use.

Most Law Enforcement offices use inmate trusties to wash their cars

I don't often drive through automatic car washes but when I do, I remove my antenna and place a cap over the mount. (At least with antennas I installed.) Can't do much about the factory ones.

Sure there's a sign that alleviates the car wash of damage, but nothing that requires it to be removed.

Simple solution.... touch-free car wash. It's not perfect but it gets the gunk off. If I don't have time to hand wash my F150 or Escape I take them to the local touch-free wash; no spinning brushes or waving cloth fingers to jack up my antennas.
