Just wondering if there was any software out there where while monitoring you could track what units are where, and who's available? Preferably free.

Kind of like a GPS unit that shows the locations of the officers? I talked to someone about that once and he said that their equipment that does that has a password that changes multiple times a second. So even if you were able to crack it you wouldn't be able to maintain access.
That of course is just what someone told me and I'm sure someone will correct me.

I tried this demo a couple years ago, and they've improved on it. It's certainly not as robust as "real' CAD programs, but it does a decent job of simulating one. Great fun.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with the keystrokes for the commands... having to use the mouse much really slows you down. First thing I did was to re-create the Call-type and Disposition "databases" to match my local agencies' codes.

I tried keeping up with LAPD's online scanner feed, and was quickly overwhelmed. Oh well. I'm not as young as when I did it for a living!
