pg 30 of 44 has list of all calfire engines and stations etc

pg 32 ish of 44 has map of all calfire stations

one or all of these counties funds amador money for all calfire engines in the winter

there might be situations were 2 money sources are used to fund a calfire station in the winter - amador money for a ty 3 engine and schedule A money for a ty 1 engine

sonoma county - solano county - lake county - yolo county - etc

(checked the wiki - did not see any list of calfire station numbers - they are listed in this 2020 strategic plan along with calfire engine numbers - includes sonoma county etc )

Good catch! This is intended for public access so the link will likely not be taken down. It contains a lot of good information. Reading through the description of what this unit does shows the workload they face. They even have a "juvenile playing with fire" unit to find those individuals who have been identified as starting fires this way. The program sounds quite impressive.

They have an area that is more than one hour from either of their inmate camps and they can't use these crews as a result. I used to work on a USFS ranger district that was in the same situation. We could not take advantage of the excellent work that inmate crews can perform on National Forest land. They are capable of doing a lot of things and not limited to fuels reduction work only. They can build camp and picnic sites, stone retaining walls, fences and can even build bear proof dumpsters in their shop during the winter. Once I transferred 55 miles south and was less than 40 miles from a CDF inmate camp I used them every year and more than once. The inmates are available during many types of disasters. They are very helpful during floods and can be used to shovel snow off of public building roofs when snow loads get real heavy and overwhelm the maintenance staff. Some inmate camps specialize in running mobile kitchens and I speak from experience, those inmates can really cook. You get some of the best food service around when spending time on SRA fires. Come to think of it I've been on some federal fires where they provided the food service.

All in all, Cal Fire is a well run agency. They aren't perfect, but what agency or human endeavor is?
