Very great band opening here in north Georgia. We just had a check in from someone in New Albany, Mississippi. Which is about 284nm's away from where he is at to the repeater. Also, we had another few people from Mississippi. Most of it seems to be coming from north east Mississippi. I'll try to do some DX'ing myself tonight on 2m.

Picking up several western Illinois VHF-hi stations tonight from the Kansas City, Missouri area.

Heard one station in Lebanon Illinois ... roughly 300 miles from me.

Ok, sounds good. I may call CQ on the calling frequency (146.52) in a few minutes and see if I get anything. Picking up quite a bit of SSB and CW stations on my other antenna. Im only FM though.

The last couple of nights have also been good in Central Alabama. I was able to talk in to the repeater in Fort Walton Beach, FL, as well as talk in to a repeater north of Birmingham. Both are over 100 miles from me. The ham north of Birmingham was also taking to a repeater in Nashville, although I couldn't hear Nashville. This was from a mobile unit while sitting my garage. I'm sure I could have sone way better with a good base station and yagi. It seems this hot weather with temperatures over 80 past midnight are creating some good thermal ducting opportunites.

Thanks for asking CalebATC. I'm in the Hickory area. I remember a station in Blairsville that used to check into the Mt. Mitchell 2M repeater.

Ah, alright. What frequency is that repeater on? I'd like to give it a try. I check into a few nets here and there, whenever I hear one.

Hello again CalebATC. The Mt. Mitchell 2 meter frequency is 145.190 mhz, no tone. They also have a 70cm and a 6m, and maybe a 220, not sure, I know they used to. Check the web for the correct frequencies for the other bands. I think they still have a net on sat night, called the 6600 Net, because of the elevation of the mountain. Give it a try. I'm not very (radio)active, just can't seem to find the time. 73.

WCARS Repeaters

I don't recall hearing much traffic on the 220 recently, it might have disappeared, but I hear 2M, 6M, & 70CM alllllllll the time from all over the place off the Mitchell repeater. The link shows all the repeaters for Mitchell, plus a few irrelevant local ones.

Ok, I tried the 2m repeater, no luck. Did sound like I was barley getting a squelch opening though. Should be doing some antenna work here in a few weeks, should be able to hear it.

Thanks again,
Caleb

Haha, dont let CalebATC fool you, its very simple. AA9PW FCC Exam Practice is a good place to start with the pracice test, thats how I studied.

Well, it isn't something you can just find a test session and walk in and expect to take your test, unless you have worked with some type of radio job.

But yes, its isn't that hard, but you do need to actually pick up a book and read.

I don't recommend just keep doing each test and memorizing the questions. Actually learn the material. It will help you!
