some how i managed to blow or "pop" the speaker on my 396 , i can still recieve on the internal speaker , just cant put the volume past 6 or 7 with out it sounding all distorted. so anyways rather than be with out the scanner i ordered 2 replacement speakers from uniden last friday , cost.... 8.43 shipping included, cheap enough ....has anyone replaced there own speaker in the 396 and am i in for any "surprises" when i open up the radio. meaning , is it difficult to replace or should it be easy enough to do. thanks

Yes, you'll have to solder the two speaker wires. They look like the top one: http://home.ica.net/~phoenix/wap/BCD396T/396T Audio Hack.JPG

If you remove the RF board, you might want to remove the grounding wire that goes to the pad below the battery type switch. In the photo, the board and ground wire have already been removed. Don't forget to replace it when you're done.

Make sure the speaker wires don't get pinched when you reassemble everything. Press them into the provided slots and keep them away from the screw holes.
