Ok, I posted as if I knew something about yellow radios, but my knowledge was over 20 years old. In my hey day when we received 1500 of the first XTS3000 digital radios produced for our new system in the very early 1990’s, all of the intrinsically safe ones were delivered with a yellow housing. Obviously, that is not the case across the board or currently.
After my initial post and the follow up comments I have learned it may have been a specification in our particular order that all of the intrinsically safe radios have the yellow housing, (for easy identification) just as NYFD apparently specifies that a particular version of the XTS radios that are going to be used by the FAST trucks have a yellow housing.
A Yellow radio case is nothing more than an option that a customer can specify and be used for strictly appearance sake or can be used to designate whatever a particular agency wants it to.
This forum is very educational – thank you for the chance to learn something new today!
