• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Article in today's Morning News of Northwest Arkansas has the details. They are going to Kenwood Nexedge. The article is behind a paywall, but the gist is they are switching in the next 1.5 years after remodeling the dispatch center.

There is a contradictory statement in the article regarding their use of encryption: "Hudson said he doesn't know if the department's new radios will have this capability. He said department commanders aren't planning to use it. They plan to have open communications and, at times, the type of encryption that is garbled."

Too bad they aren't going to AWIN.

LOL, not yet anyway... Be aware that Whistler has stated the possibility of DMR, and "other formats" in the first of their original Whistler scanners in the next couple of years....
