I found a dedicated UHF Military Avation Antenna, (225~400MHz), from SSE (Solid State Electronics), in the UK. SSE-BASE-125SJ

They also make a dedicated VHF Avation Antenna, (118~138MHz). SSE-BASE-128SJ

In addition to those, they sell a VHF/UHF Diplexer, DIP2002.AB.EU

Both antennas, as well as the diplexer, have "N" connectors, which is impressive. If you buy the two antenna, and the diplexer, they include the cables, with N connectors, to connect all three togeather!

This appears to be an impressive antenna setup for avation monitoring.
Anyone have any experience with these?

convert the UK pounds to US dollars and see how much that set up is going to cost. it might be more cost effective to look for that set up here in the states. plus don't forget shipping costs from the UK

Hi guys,

MOST IMPRESSIVE! Obviously a "professional" setup well designed and manufactured PLUS the advantage of a well designed diplexer for minimal insertion loss. Hams use similar antenna/rigs/diplexer arrangements and they work very well unlike some of the garbage "they" pawn off on less knowlegable and/or inexperienced individuals. (I won't paint all scanner enthusiasts with the same brush.)

Owing to the stability of the UK pound and a bit of (sloppy) mental math the UHF antenna would cost approximately $100 US. (I wonder what that is in Australian dollars, hi.) Unless I misread the ad the price of the total package and it's components wasn't mentioned but I would think it's well worth looking into. Shipping to the US isn't all that much so I wouldn't worry about it, especially if you're looking for a "right banger" of an antenna system.

For some reason aircraft monitoring is much more active in the UK, then here in the US. You're very hard pressed to find scanner antennas that are optimizied for aircraft monitoring in the US. Yet in the UK, they seem to be more popular than antennas for genearl Public Service comms. I might actually make my own antennas, now that I've seen theres. I'm quite certain all that is inside that PVC pipe is a simple vertical cut for that frequency.

I think it's because aircraft monitoring is about the only thing with scanners they don't frown upon over there in the UK. I think this looks like a nice set up and might be worth the money as well. What the hell...hams pay hundreds of dollars for directional monoband antennas, and let's not forget the hardware to go with them...why not a hundred bucks for a dedicated scanning antenna, if that's your thing?
