Numbers 13 & 14 are in the STR Trailers in each region. 13 & 16 can only be used when interoperating with Federal agencies. My guess is that 1 - 5 will be most heard in the northwest portion of the state where they are mostly staying VHF...Or on the border for Interop with other states & Canada.

I suppose if one of those agencies comes down to the Twin Cities for training or to pick up a prisoner we might hear them on VCALL10 instead of MINSEF. I am trying to recall now if MINSEF was hot patched to ARMER back when, but is no longer patched. I my have to check my notes.

Actually, if you were assigned to a detail that gets all over the state. Say for example prisoner transport. It might not be a bad idea to keep that VHF radio in the car for awhile. It looks like now, at least in theory, if you were traveling across the country, you should be able to reach a law enforcement agency anywhere via VCALL10.

I will also have to check back in that manual. I think I read that VCALL10 will be on many ARMER towers, BUT not all towers sites.

I would think even for the agencies that are close to Wisconsin it might still be handy to have a VHF radio. I understand that with ARMER and mutual aid channels msot anything can be patched, but if nothing else if you are right across the river from a Wisonsin county on VHF, why not use it to monitor them AND fill it up with the VHF Interoperability Frequencies. You could even put in other less used frequencies, like 156.8 and 157.1 for marine monitoring.

FCC Frequency Search For Askov Tower Site

I was a little bored, so I decided to do a little search in a 1 mile radius from GPS Coordinates:

46-11-37.2 N, 092-48-11.9 W

I entered a pretty wide range of frequencies from 138 mHz to 869 mHz just to see what turns up in that area. I ended up with these results:

License Search Error

After wading through the non-government licenses, I ended up with a just a few:

ULS License - Public Safety Pool, Conventional License - KAJ780 - MINNESOTA, STATE OF - Frequencies Summary These are basically the legay VHF Minnesota State Patrol District 2700 Base frequency, MINSEF, Point To Point, and I don't recall why 155.190 is there.

ULS License - Public Safety Pool, Conventional License - KGR329 - MINNESOTA, STATE OF Legacy DOT VHF.

ULS License - Public Safety Pool, Conventional License - WPBM431 - MINNESOTA, STATE OF Legacy Minnesota State Patrol VHF Statewide and Tactical.

ULS License - PubSafty/SpecEmer/PubSaftyNtlPlan,806-817/851-862MHz,Trunked License - WQKA497 - MINNESOTA, STATE OF ARMER

ULS License - Public Safety Pool, Conventional License - WQNM230 - MINNESOTA, STATE OF New Narrowband frequencies.

ULS License - Public Safety Pool, Conventional License - WYV329 - MINNESOTA, STATE OF Legacy Minnesota DNR Forestry.

I thought it might be interesting to see what pops at a random state site to see what is there.

154.7625 and 155.6175 are apparently Arrowhead Transit! I was expecting the StatewideVHF Interoperable Frequencies.

So, I re-did the search with just VCALL10 155.7525 with a large radius around Saint Cloud and it looks like they issued a separate license with essentially each legacy State Patrol Dispatch as a control point. I have to dig a bit deeper to see which sites have VCALL10. I seem to recall running across a figure a bit over 100 recently here. So it sounds like some ARMER sites must be just ARMER, but others have the extra interoperability stuff. It is sort of interesting to snoop around if you get bored and like that sort of stuff.

After more searching, it looks like VCALL10 155.7525 might be at two locations in Pine County:

I35 and CR 11 17344 Henriette Road 55063
Pine City, MN PINE County 45-50-28.0 N, 092-58-56.9 W

CR 43, 3 mi south east of
Kerrick, MN PINE County 46-19-50.5 N, 092-31-44.6 W

As of the state Interop Conference, there will be 109 of the ARMER sites that also "house" the VHF Overlay stuff. VCALL & the VTAC'S, VLAW31, VMED28, VFIRE23, and MNCOMM. These license are held by the State and will cover the entire state.

In addition, there will be 7 sites (don't know where) that will house the 8CALL & 8TAC frequencies across the state.

If you want to know more about the VHF Overlay, just search in the Google for Minnesota VHF Overlay and you should be able to find a little info. The only thing I can't find are any listings of which sites will house the VHF stuff.

I see thatFigure 10 - Typical interoperability remote site also lists UCALL and UTACs, but I wonder if Minnesota will actually use any of those.

Those numbers are interesting. With 109 of the ARMER sites ahving the VHF overlay, in theory, there should be may be 95 % mobile coverage on a VHF radio with say a decent antenna and mobile power level.

However, with only 7 sites having 8CALL and 8TAC equipment, that isn't much coverage. I may have to search those frequencies and see if anybody outside the metro area has anything yet. I would assume not.

Just a guess, but I would assume that they will be mostly covering the Metro, but I have heard that Rochester area also has some of those resources already. Possibly in St Cloud & Duluth in the future???

Check out the ARMER webpage and go to the Agenda for the September SRB Meeting. There is a complete rundown of which sites are going to house the VHF Overlay and the 800 MHz National Conventional Interop.
