The many Starbucks around my house use this brand of intercom system. http://www.techamerica.net/ in the 460mhz range. When your out and about take a look ands see if this the standard for them in your area. I'm in California. I ask because the other day while in the drive thru my scanner locked on to a frequency that was an open carrier. when I drove away it went away, I made a u-turn and could hear it again. no voices or drive thru traffic, just an open freq that I knew was from Starbucks. Later I needed another coffee and excuse to test my scanner. Different Starbucks and same thing occurred? I'm just trying to figure it out??

When I worked at StarBucks, we did not have a drive-thru, however we did use Motorola CLS1410 2-way radios on 464.550 PL 67.0. While I worked there I totally re-programmed the frequency/DPL because of local interference from the other stores in the mall, but most StarBucks that are busy enough stores will be on that.

That's what I was wondering too. I mean....it's only this one room. No wonder their coffee is so damned expensive. They're wasting money on these silly extras.

lol,.. I don't know about you guys, but that's conjuring up pretty funny images of people all chattering on radios standing within feet of each other, giving and taking funny sounding coffee orders.. That's SNL skit material right there...

Those small retail locations can dish out a lot of volume in sales. The "baristas" covering the drive-thru wear headsets so they can run around while talking to the drive-up customers. Some drive-thru intercoms have a "bong" alert tone whenever a vehicle pulls up to make an order. At one particular drive thru that served doughnuts, I was amazed at how fast they handled orders.

"Bong! Welcome to XYZ Doughnuts. May I take your order?"
"Yes, I'd like a dozen cake doughnuts, six jelly filled, and six euclairs."
"That will be $9.50. Please pull up to the window."

"Yes, I'd like ... "
"That will be ... "

And they can have their expensive coffee.... I don't like their corporate attitude on a number of issues. I'll stick to brewing my own....
