I have a GRE 500 and all of a sudden it has a tremendous amount of static. I live in the Salt lake City area and it has been great until now.
Does anyone have a secrete to help this maybe a change of a setting ? I know nothing about the advanced settings
Please help
Thanks

It could be a new radio (or TV) tower that just began transmissions in your area which is creating radio interference on your scanner. These scanners suffer from out of band interference.

Try the weather band. If you get static then it is the radio. Try rapping the sides of the scanner rather sharply with your hand and see if that cures issue. That seems to cure my 500 when the sound gets low or squirrely.

Sounds like RF interference to me. Move the radio to a different room or outside and see if the noise continues. A CFL (compact fluorescent light) in the room can create a great deal of noise as can a cheap linear AC adapter.

It's a place to start your diagnosing the problem.
