Hey everyone!
Just got the GMRS callsign the other day, and I'm working a full-time repeater system. As soon as the callsign came up, I went out and got a new desk, and re-did EVERYTHING! Posted some pictures below, so enjoy!

Nice!

Very clean... Very neat and organised.. Too bad you missed out on the shack contest.. You would have been a strong contender!

Oops, almost forgot to post some information.

Above, you'll see a Motorola M1225,(UHF 20 channels) a Motorola Maxtrac, (UHF 32 channels/16 pin) and an old Bearcat III that's on 1 channel 24/7. Lowband. As far as portables, I've got two UHF MTS2000's, a UHF GP300, and a UHF Pro-2150. (Currently for sale... again.)

As far as my limited communications go, I'm trying to get enough money for a scanner now too. I've owned so many scanners in the past, but at this point in time, I'd love another one again. I'm looking to get a nice BCT15 once again, man, I loved that thing! Best scanner out there.

Problem with money is I'm also getting my first car soon... (just got my permit!) And I've come across a great deal on an MCS2000.

I love that old Bearcat III with the front firing oval speaker (black color is cool). Very nice shack. I really like the way you have it organized. Nice job!

Yeah, I didn't really like the white speaker on it, so I swapped it with a Beartcat IV speaker. I don't even know which parts are from which radios in this thing anymore. I stripped parts from a few Bearcat IV's, and a few Bearcat III's and made this a parts radio. It works great! I don't remember correctly, but I'm pretty sure that Bearcat III's do not do Lowband... but guess what - this one does!!!

Unfortunately, this radio isn't suiting my needs anymore, because it isn't receiving well. I'm positive the poor reception is from the antenna though. I'm looking for a lowband Maxtrac. (preferably a two-channel.)

So, what is it you do? I see on your organization website that you are claiming affiliation with the town of Islip? I'm just curious as to what your members do during "activation" since they are issued pagers and are signed up?

No, I'm not affiliated in any way with the town of islip, but there's nothing on the website that says that I am. The Town of Islip logo is on the site, only supporting the fact that we only operate in towns within the Town of Islip. (For ex: if there's a call in a town out of the Town of Islip, it's not going to be heard over our radio system.) Pretty simple...

The group is like a buff group. The pagers are to let people know when theres good calls in their areas. Me personally; I go to calls because I'm a photographer for 1st Responder. I take alot of pictures, both for the company and just for my personal pleasure. Walking around with about five different radios to know what's going on in the area is a little ridiculous. Lowband, highband, UHF-lowsplit and UHF highsplit is what I would need for this county.. oh, and 800MHz too. If I could limit that all down to one pager, that'd be awesome! And I'm not about to walk into a Kmart with a radio on me, I'll look like an idiot. That's one reason I'm trying to start this. Maybe they just want to hear all the calls, or maybe they want to go TO the calls. But there's no one reason to start a group like this. Theirs way too many reason to state. Everyone would have their own reason.

I like what you've done with the old bearcat as well. May even try that with mine (needs rebuilt though).

I know this should go in the "wanted" board, but if you ever want to let go of that Bearcat III, let me know ;-) I'm starting to head down the vintage collection road and like that one alot.

Shack looks good Steve. How has the amateur radio studying been going? Looks like you've got some qualified gear for 23 Cm!

Have a good one,

Yeah, try it out! My works pretty good, but like I said earlier, the only problem with mine is the reception I'm getting on lowband. But otherwise this thing works great!

Thanks for the kind words, Kingpin. Been alittle busy for the amateur radio test, but I'm going to try and get to the next one which is this upcoming Sunday.

whats with the rubberband on the MT2000?

I put the rubber band on the MT2000 because the clips broke off the NON-OEM battery!!! I'm pissed about it, as I like to keep all of my equipment in MINT condition, and that is far from MINT now. But my friend was nice enough to offer me a battery in replace of this one.
