My Pro-93 and BC3000XLT where stolen from my car three wks ago. Today I went to my local pawn shop and saw my radios on the display for sale at $150.00 each. When I ask the sale person to see them he took them out ask me what this radios do. I told him I could listen to local PD ect..... Then I took some pictures and call the police. When they(PD) arrive at the store they ask me how I knew their where mine. I answered by telling them that inside the scanner was a label with my name on it. So I remove the screws holding the back cover of the radio. I remove the cover and the label with my name was still inside. My local police took some pictures of the radios and return them back to me that same day. Now their looking for the person that sold the radios to the pawn shop.

Wanted to know what they do? It's amazing how uninformed some of those pawn people are. Or maybe they just don't care. Years ago, I saw a Black Beauty Les Paul in a little store and they wanted $250. Thing was easily worth ten times that. I decided against it... Bad karma.

good show bro!
i worked at a pawn shop in KcMO,,
the honet ones will fork over the goods ASAP,all transactions are done
via photo ID so the crook Will be nabbed,,and if the shop didnt log the ID
the owner will get alot of grief, maybe even the lic. pulled if its a repeat thing..

ive modded pretty much all my gear, photos to boot so If the case ever came
luckily id be able to provide proof,,

Sadly,,
moron thief shoulda kept the scanners,,might have kept them out of the klink,,lol

Thanks

The person that sold the radios to the pawn shop he only got $30.00 for each scanner. So the pawn was going to make 5x what they paid for each radio.

Excellent idea Al, I bet a number of people will follow up with this suggestion.

Congrats on your recovery Al! That's a great idea to hide your info inside the unit. Do you include any outside markers so that you can see at a glance that they are yours?

with the newer GRE and Uniden scanners its a good idea to program you "start-up" screen to show your name and address. Hopefully a thief isn't smart enough to reprogram them.
Anything that can identify your property will help.

I've done this (Name above HAM above GMRS callsign) on the radios that support it, but I really ought to physically mark them internally for assurance. Reset instructions are easily found online.

This is great, hope they do catch the guy. Let us know if you find out any more.
About the pawn shop guy asking you what they do. I love to watch that show "Pawn Stars", and I noticed whenever anyone brings in something unusual, the shop guy always asks the seller first, "what can you tell me about this?", even though the shop guy already knows exactly what the item is, and does. It's a pretty smart move, because of all the different answers people have.

Ah, just pack the scanner full of explosive with a remote trigger.

Seen as how scanners cost as much as a computer, perhaps there should be some kind of password protected memory that allows you to enter your name, etc?

Hey tonyclark! Like your avatar! Had one just like it with a leprechaun, but for some reason it was deleted.

You would think as much as scanner's cost they would include gps tracking for free so you can find it. as long as you have serial number you in luck.
