• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi, there everyone. I just purchased a Motorola STX-821 off of Ebay for a real great price.
It came with a new battery, rapid charger, long 800 mhz antenna, and PS speakermike with stubby antenna. Got it for $100.00! Thought it was a good price.
I have been looking for info on this rig and haven't found much. I know it does Smartnet 1 and 2. Where I live they are using the Smartzone 2 and using some digital and some analog channels. What I want to know is if I have the conventional channels programmed will I receive the digital or the analog, or both. If not the digital; will the radio still be able to scan through the analog without stopping on the digital? I'm not real familiar with this model.
Also can anyone who has one give me some reviews? (pro's and con's) Thanks.

It will not decode digital. You can program it as Type II and then only program in analog talkgroups and you'll be good. Scanning with this radio sucks as the scan list is only 5 channels.

Thanks...

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know they only do 5 channels for scan. Oh well, I'll have it in a few days and will try it out. My next radio that is if I can find one at a good price will do digital. Have a nice day...

I got it...

I got it in the mail today. Am looking online for the manual now. One question is how do I get this thing to scan? I pushed the menu and step and there is a flashing icon at the upper right side of the display...is it sanning then? Will have to find user manual online...Thanks.
