IMHO, your easiest bet is to invest in some software that will help you program the radio.

If you do it by hand, you need to set the bank as Motorola II 800 Mhz
Then, plug in each freq, and set it to Trunk...

Once all the channels are in, you'd have to follow the manual to to get your talk ID's in there. It may take a while to do by hand.... definately easier to do it by software.

Software runs about $30 - cable is about the same......

If you'd like me to program it for you, I have a PRO-528 file and software ready to go..
PM me, and we'll take it off line.

There are a few Digital Talk groups, but the majority of SCPD is still analog.

No, the digital talkgroups consist of the DA's office, Narcotics (although this is rarely if ever used), the various detective groups (homicide, robbery, etc etc), and Surveillance. Or at least this is what I have noticed during my long hours scanning.

Surveying a surveillance channel sounds interesting to me $350 well spent :)

But perhaps for the handheld I intend to buy, the Pro-528 will do.

I noticed these talkgroups when I was locking out channels I wasn't interested in, but left on in case they do start talking

(with out starting a debate on what NCPD's system is going to be)

Depending on how close you are to your neighboring county (Nassau), you may be ready for what ever they decide to do as well....

And, rumor has it that USCG is playing with P-25.... and Dix Hills FD has one digital freq. - so don't go kicking yourself in the back of the pants just yet!
