I just recently got a brand new Trx-2 to be used with area Motorola and p25 simulcast systems and dmr both vhf and 800 MHz. For those of you that love your Trx-2, what are some tweaks that you have done that have made your trx-2 more enjoyable to listen to?

Only had mine about two weeks but it works great on everything right out of the box, including P25 simulcast, no tweaks. Make you upgrade the firmware!

What do you think needs tweaking?

I am having real issues with a 800 MHz p25 phase 1 simulcast system that is two counties north of me. Lots of distortion, can’t get the talkgroups programmed to hold on the screen long enough. I really don’t have this problem with the gre psr-600 I have. Squelch is set at 11 right now.

Did you upgrade the firmware?

What antenna(s) are you using?

Try setting the squelch low, around 2 or 3.

Current firmware settings. Currently using just telescoping right angle antenna that comes from factory. I’m wondering if there are specific settings in the scanner that I can tweak to optimize listening enjoyment!

I see a handful of other scanners in your signature.... are they performing better/worse than this new TRX-2 ?

Maybe moving this to the Virginia Forum may gain some more traction from people in your area.
Okay. I thought that much like installing an operating system on a pc, you have to tweak things after you get them, I thought the same would be true of a scanner.

I use my factory antenna from my TRX-1 on my WS-1098 and it solves about 95% of any simulcast issues.
I also change the DSP value on occasion . It was suggested on here in one of the forms I read to adjust the level + or - 7 at a time and that works well for me. I find weather does affect my reception for sure. My 1098 is on my night stand in my bedroom and my TRX-2 is on top my computer hutch in my family room with a Opek HR-12 antenna on it with no distortion at all. So in my case location and antenna's make a difference for my listening.
