SPRING FORWARD:
FULL-SCALE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE
SUMMIT COUNTY, COLORADO – The Summit County Office of Emergency Management will be hosting a full-scale emergency preparedness/response exercise on Thursday, April 7, 2011, from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Participating agencies will be exercising their ability to respond to a mock scenario revolving around a ski lift derailment at Keystone Resort.
The exercise will involve more than 100 local emergency responders and approximately 50 community volunteers will also participate as mock patients with varying levels of injuries. Some patients will also be transported to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center, Keystone Medical Center and Breckenridge Medical Center.
This exercise was designed to test real-time emergency response and coordination between ski patrol, Summit County Rescue Group, Summit County Sheriff’s Office, fire districts, ambulance, the School District and medical facilities. Communications protocols and fatality management coordination between participating agencies, triage, transportation, and management of patients at participating medical facilities will also be tested.
Please be aware there will be multiple emergency vehicles, ambulances, buses, uniformed personnel and volunteers at both the Mountain House Base Area at Keystone Resort, Keystone Medical Center, St. Anthony Summit Medical Center and Breckenridge Medical Center, as well as on the roadways in between, on the day of the exercise. Residents, guests and businesses in Keystone Resort will be notified of the exercise. The Mountain House Base Area and ski runs leading into the Mountain House Base Area will also be closed during the exercise.
