Man alive...what the heck is going on up there?

I missed recording the initial SO response...I could kick myself.

Does anyone feel that it would even be worth trying on FBI radios?

I'm guessing full ENC and simplex...I live well beyond the range of a 5 watt HT. Also, I can't afford the requisite antenna tech to pull signals that far out.

Anyway, I'm trying to keep it radio related...but if you fellas or gals have any ideas please post!!!

They were running off a temp repeater and encrypted, along with simplex operations. Most likley what people seen being setup then taken down.

One strong rumor was espionage. That would make more sense than anything. I was watching local news last week and an evacuee/resident made the comment "It's probably something. It's not like they're gonna find aliens win the surface of the sun."
