Perhaps they found it to be a cheaper option to be on their own as opposed to the new FleetNet? Like how Toronto EMS does it

I don't think this is a regular EMS type unit. Think St. John Ambulance. They probably had a VHF channel for a repeater that was limited in use and went to this method.

Our local EMS (Renfrew County) has a RATT team dedicated for certain types of rescues. They have a separate VHF channel for those types of comms when in the bush.

I think this is pretty much the same type of service.


I wonder if they would still maintain conventional VHF radios in the trucks for access to PCOM etc.

Edit - Looks like an Inrico network radio.

Probably a system like Zello. My company uses this system which is an app that can run on iOS and Android devices. There are also speaker mic's and headsets that can be added to the device. Very reliable unless the cell towers are down or you are out in a dead spot.

Mike you're right. One of the private EMS companies that do events. The radios shown are WiFi band so will be on one of the many WiFi/VoIP services offered.
