Switching from serial port to USB mass storage and vice versa

I'm concerned about learning the recommended if any way to switch the 536 from serial port to USB mass storage and vice versa. There doesn't seem to be a recommendation in the manual. Everything has been going smoothly except for once a few hours after unpacking there was one corrupted data message but on the retry it resolved. Not wanting to have repeats of data failures.

Is powering the radio down then powering it up the proper way to switch from one mode to another or is there something more kinder and gentler for the SD card?

Everytime you plug up the USB cable it ask you #1 Mass Storage or #2 Serial.
If you pick Mass Storage you update the scanner and unplug the USB cable for it to take affect.
If you pick Serial you can control the with remote software.
The is the only way to switch is to unplug the USB and plug the USB cable back up to the scanner.

I use the "Safely remove hardware and eject media" icon to unmount it when connected to pc before pulling the cable..
