I have been hearing police dispatch type traffic on the statewide mutual aid calling talk group. It is (84) Vigo Co. radio Id's. Wondering why they would be using this talk group for regular dispatch type traffic? Example traffic....Green pickup on 63 with unrestrained minor occupants. Not mutual aid type traffic. Also not one incident but hearing all day different calls.

sometimes they hit the knob on their radios and switch talkgroups without realizing they have... Last few days I have heard a Putnam Farm guard calling control for a radio check on the wrong talkgroup (SWMA) LOL

This sounds like dispatch, but maybe the same thing they forget to switch back over, not sure how it works but do dispatch agencies monitor the statewide mutual aid talk groups

If the wrong talkgroup is selected as primary and dispatch keys the foot pedal then WHOOPS. Done it many times.

I keyed JMA1 while I was in training at Hendricks County while telling a long yarn and one of the dispatchers down in Edinburgh recognized my voice and sent me a funny text asking about the story. Embarrassing but we've all done it.

Thats funny and sounds like what was probably happening, and I say this because one thing I noticed was no reply to the dispatches. Wonder how long it took for the dispatcher to realize no one was answering, like I said it went on for several hours today.

Dispatch probably had SWMA on an MSEL without knowing it was active, then using the mic button or pedal (or other general transmit method) to talk. As I said, we've all done it.

Just another adventure in dispatch LOL.

Yes, there are funny things that happen all the time in radio land. Like at least once a week someone leans back on something and presses the PTT with his/her butt, or sits a cup of coffee down on a mic button etc.... Then you hear all kinds of things for a while.. Then attention tones and "Unit XXX, you have an open mic!"
