A system ID, in traditional terms, is used to identify a Motorola trunked system. These numbers were assigned by Motorola and used to identify the customer's system. Newer P25 Trunked systems use them also but they are no longer as independent as the older Motorola 3600 system ID's; the customer has the ability to set it to what they want.

This information is useless for a scanner at the moment.

While the 246 does not support displaying System ID's, some newer scanners do, such as the 396 or PSR500. You also may see the System ID when using various trunking programs such as Trunker.

Knowing the System ID's used in your area is useful for determining whether the system you are hearing is one you know of already. For example, when conditions are favorable for DX on 800 MHZ. I fire up Trunker and spin the dial on my R8500 looking for Moto trunked systems. I recognize the local systems and research the ones I don't recognize. Since most of the System ID's are already published here at RR or elsewhere I can almost always find it with a quick search.

Just like everyone else said that information as far as programming your scanner goes is USELESS and you don't input it anywhere.

Just set your scanner to MOT 800 standard and control channel only and add all of the RED frequencies on that list. Of course set your system quick key etc. and then put the scanner in ID SEARCH on that system. You'll start hearing all of the active talkgroups.
