Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I’ve read countless threads about Systems Saber RSS and how picky they are. I have R03.00.2 “Lima Alpha Bravo” RSS and my Systems Saber is a CORE 5 so it “should” read it. My old school programming laptop I have programs ALL of my super old Motorola radios without any issues ( P200/HT600’s, Standard Sabers, MT1000’s, sp50’s etc etc ) and they all program fine. When I go to READ my Systems Saber 3 I get this error message -

From what I read it’s because the computer is “too fast” but yet I have zero issues with any of my other regular Sabers or Genesis radios.

I have a genuine Motorola Saber Progrmaming cable and a genuine Motorola RIB and the cable and rib works great with my standard Saber series so I know it isn’t the RIB or cable.

I know you can start a codeplug from scratch with the Systems Saber RSS but my question is - if I do this will it even write to the radio if it can’t even read from it ? Or am I just wasting my time ?

I would
1) Take the radio apart and ensure the gold contacts on bottom of chassis and in bottom of case are clean.
2) try to read another radio.
3) Don't write a CP to a radio you have not read and archived beforehand.
4) The CPU clock crystal, about 7.x MHz may be weak or flaky resulting in a poor data connection.

I’ll take the case apart and give that a shot. I already cleaned all the contacts on the back of the radio with a pencil eraser and still no-go but I’ll dig deeper and see what I can do.

I know this is a 40 year old radio at this point but I’d still like to program it up for GMRS and some local UHF stuff. It works very well with the frequencies that’s already in it. Just wish I could program it haha

At this point, the only thing I can offer is make sure that your 9V battery in the RIB is very fresh.

I have the same problem with standard Sabers and P110s. It will go through the motions of reading the codeplug, but will not display the codeplug. My clock speed apparently is too fast, however it does work great on my Visars, HT1000s, and MT2000s.

If you have the floppy for the RSS and if you live near "Old People Country" and want to try my computer, we can give that a try and see if it will work.
