• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

My G4 kept operating as if the Receiving Mode was Trunking TG-Monitor. I knew it was set for Trunking TG-Scan. The problem was that I had created a talk group 65535, which is a wildcard in decimal. I must have skipped entering a talk group somewhere. Everything worked once I changed the service to the correct talk group.

Yup - nice to have that wildcard in the latest firmware.... just wish it worked like other talkgroups (record - it doesn't). Would also be really nice to someday get an option to auto-mute encryption - both for those talkgroups that you find (the hard way*) are encrypted and/or those that are partially encrypted. It sure would make a wildcard talkgroup more useful.

I recently used the wildcard talkgroup (the only talkgroup programmed) in conjunction with frequency band searches (rather than specific system frequencies) when traveling trough South Carolina from Asheville. I was able to listen to Palmetto P25 across 9 counties with very limited programming (no alpha tags of course but my other radios were monitoring the system with alpha tags).

* when traveling, I use the RRDB to program. I don't program talkgroups marked encrypted and I tend to find lots of encrypted talkgroups that are not marked as such in the RRDB.... and then all I can do is turn the radio down.

I have gotten 2 different answers to this, what is the difference between TG scan and TG monitor

To my knowledge:

TG Scan - only monitors the specific talkgroups you have programmed in that knob position (scan list)

TG Monitor - will monitor any talkgroup that is determine to be active on the current control channel

Now- if you add a talkgroup with an ID of 65535 (or FFFF hex), that knob position will function the same (or very similar) to 'TG Monitor" even if set to "TG Scan"

What other answer did you get?
