So I was looking at the entry for the Talk Wireless UHF LTR system up at Lookout Point:

http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=3221

There seems to be one heck of a lot of groups active for The Weed Man. Can anyone actually confirm if they actually use all of the groups they have on there?

The only thing I can think of is that they are using individual groups as a way of identifying radios, much the same as what Fleetcom does with Miller Transit. That is, every radio would be programmed to receive all groups between 0-05-xxx and 0-05-xxx but would transmit back with their specific group/radio ID. That way, a properly configured radio would be able to display an alphanumeric alias for each group which would translate into an individual radio.

Just a thought... but it does seem odd that they'd need THAT many groups...unless the weeds are taking over!

Hello exkalibur, I sumit the information for this LTR System, I know that from listening to the system the weed man has the region broken up into sections and have different sections on different talkgroups, I can confirm all the id's, I only submit information on id's only when I can confirm. As far as to how the system is set up or how it really works I can't say.

As someone who has been in my backyard bent over for the last 1-1/2
hours I can confirm that The Weeds ARE taking over...

That large TG count did strike me as well...I guess Saint would have to
answer whether both sides of a conversation are carried over these TGs
or it is set up as one mobile per TG and one for each base...

Weedman in Ottawa uses LTR in the more usual way with one or
maybe two regular TGs.

They most likely use block decode as a way to turn off specific radios for seasonal customers. Since LTR doesn't allow for individual radio ID's assigning talkgroup ID's to individual radios is the only way to accomplish this. When a talkgroup gets turned off the user still gets the cue tone but they get trunked off to a non existent repeater of 21.

Hi Dave, I was also surprised when I first started to log information on this system about how many tg's they have, I really think it's over kill the way they have the system set up, it's in zones. The area is broken up into zones, Niagara falls area is a zone and wainfleet and area is a zone and they seem to have drivers on tg's for that zone so everyone is not listening to other people in other zones. To answer your question I do hear both sides of the conversation on the tg's. When I get some time I'll try and figure out the name of the zones, the tg, the city or town and any other information so it will be easier to see how the system is set up. I never new how big this company is and how many customers they have until I found this system.
