Hello, I'm new to scanners and I need help. I have a Whistler 1040 and I'd like to understand how to find the frequencies of talk groups near me and then program them into my scanner. There are several talk groups in shopping malls, airports, and companies, and I'd like to know how to find their frequencies and then program their groups into my radio. Can anyone help? Yes, visit your local RRDB page. Additionally you can invest in a RR premium subscription that way you can utilize the RR frequency data search & in the event the info isn't listed in the RRDB there's also an FCC license search you can utilize. Otherwise if you'd rather not invest in said subscription you can utilize the FCC's ULS search to look up the undocumented. Also worth noting that the WS1040 cannot trunk track P25 Phase-II nor DMR nor NXDN & is prone to simulcast distortion

Please let us know your city or town, county, and state so we can check the database to see what your scanner is able to receive.

Talkgroups are most often part of a trunked system or on a digital frequency, as others have said you need to look them up in the database (if listed) and find the control channels for the system or digital frequency. An easy way is to think of the frequency as a phone number and the talkgroup as an extension in the business.

Shopping malls talkgroups would most likely be DMR which your scanner can't receive.
