I've recently manually scanned the dial for TETRA signals in Scarborough, and came up with a very chatty frequency of 860.1625, says MNC 44. Very technical chatter, can't quite pinpoint what it is, often mentioning tanks, levels, measurements, clearly something industrial.

If I had to guess it's like a city water pumping station or water treatment plant? I am not too far from either of those in eastern Scarborough.

Anyone have any idea?

OPG has a licensed frequency for TETRA that matches, although it specifically says Darlington plant which is fairly far, and one of the licenses (of 3) indicates portable radios. TAFL Licence Details. Maybe they're using it out of Pickering now too? It would line up well with what you're hearing.

Though it looks like the TTC has licenses on that frequency too. TAFL Search Results

Hmm, interesting... At first I thought about the Pickering plant, but then I thought something of that importance wouldn't be in the clear.

The signal is very strong, I am about 13km away from the plant as the crow flies.

I listen to TTC on a regular basis on TETRA, and this sounds nothing like it.

I'll continue to listen to see if something more obvious identifies it.

Is there a small refinery in the area. They tend to be more technical on the operations rather than a commercial user such as a milk production facility.

Hmm, i dont know what the place is, but there is some kind of chemical plant not far away, on the same stretch of road as the pumping station & water treatment facility I was referring to, it doesnt say much on it except Dow Canada.

Wow, It is in fact Darlington. I recorded overnight chatter and one transmission definitely identified it as Darlington.

That is 40km from where I live. That's some transmitter they have, the signal is stronger than TTC TETRA transmitters here in the city.

If you're anywhere near the lake, signals are great from anything along the water there I've found... from the Oshawa lakefront I can listen to Niagara and Halton's P25 systems beautifully. Peel and Toronto come in fantastic.

Nice find!

Yeah I am near the lake, perhaps that's why this is coming in so strong.

There are a bunch of talkgroups on this system, just identifying them is gonna be next to impossible as they don't seem to identify anything, and there doesn't appear to be any sort of central dispatch.

It is so strong because its being powered directly from the reactor. :)

I'm here a lot
Just identifying the MNC numbers assigned to the various frequencies from 852 to 868 MHz would help greatly to get an Ontario Power Generation TETRA system up and running in the database.

That frequency is an old MSS frequency for Toronto Police. A bunch of their stuff is repeated in the subway, so that would explain why the TTC has a license on it. Nothing to do with the TTC's comms, their stuff is all 400MHz.

Thanks for clarifying that one - thought it was odd to have their name on it since they're in the 400s, but this makes sense.

I found this article from 2014:

Cool. There is another frequency I found of 866.1375, also on MNC 44, LA5, (vs LA1 of the confirmed Darlington one), but there's not been any chatter on it at all over 3 days. Maybe its Pickering, but there's no activity on it.

TAFL appears to have all the frequencies listed for Pickering and Darlington. I don't see 866.1375 though.
