I am able to pick up local police and fire frequencies just fine. When I try to get those and other frequencies while using spectrum search I get absolutely nothing. What am I doing wrong. Not even weather frequencies come in. Thanks.

Spectrum Search is the Whistler version of the UNIDEN Close Call, unless you are near to a strong signal it will not be heard. By close I mean across the street or down the block close.

Just as the name implies, Close Call is just that - close. As N1GAW already stated, either down the street or next door, etc. I used it a lot on the road in my hotel/motels to hear maintenance and security where I was staying. Sometimes I would be pleasantly surprised if and when I caught something unusual, but it was mostly mundane stuff. One night I intercepted repo guys sneaking around my cabin rental searching for a car, they were using FRS blister-pak radios. Very unnerving at first until we figured out who and what they were.
