Hello all,

I had another question in regard to text tagging ID #'s. I have the public safety frequencies in bank 3, 3-0 thru 3-4 all have assigned tags for the id #'s. I still get many id's that come up and I would like to tag a few of them. Mostly the law enforcement ones. How could I go about doing this? Would I have to program the frequencies into another bank i.e. 4 to tag these id's?

I hope this makes sense, thanks for any help,

K

To add an alpha tag to a talkgroup, it must be programmed into a scan bank.

Usually you use your [trunk] key to save the ID (you will get a confirmation message).

Later on, go into "Trunk Bank Programming Mode (where you see Talkgroup IDs)," make sure you're in Program Mode, go to a talkgroup you saved earlier, and press your [text] key to add an alpha tag. If you're in the "Trunk Channel Programming Mode (where you see the frequencies)," to switch between the modes, it will probably be [program] + [trunk] keys.

Then there's "Open" vs "Closed" Trunking Modes. "Open" will trunk ALL talkgroups, whether you programmed them or not; and "Closed" will trunk ONLY the talkgroups you enter. For my 95, it's [program] +[5] while scanning the bank. Also there a talkgroup delay setting that helps you *not* scramble for your scanner to catch a new ID. For me, it's [program] + [/delay] while in Programming Mode. Consult your documentation.

You can use the RR Database to program in the Talkgroups for your system, as this stays pretty much up to date. Think about contributing to the site in support; there are many bonus features.

Check the trunking forums for more details and the software forums for some software-based programmers for your scanner.

It also helps if you post what city/system you're trying to program and your brand of scanner.

Thanks for the reply.

I am using a PRO-95 and am programming Huntsville, alabama.
The frequencies were programmed when I bought the scanner, but all of the id's dont have text tags.

Storing known Talkgroup ID’s and TEXT (alpha tags) in the bank with the trunking system.
1. Press PGM
2. Press TRUNK and navigate to Bank 0-0 and ID No. 00 using Up/Down button.
3. Enter the 5 digit Mot or 4 digit ED ID
4. Press ENTer
5. Press Text, the cursor appears on line 3.
6. Using the numbered keys text in the line up to 12 characters. The letters above each number will help in the selection. Example, POLICE DISP (11 characters counting the space) The first letter is P, Press the number 7 then the number 1 for P. (7 will open the four numbers PQRS and by selecting 1 is for the first of these four. A 7 then 2 would get the letter Q. Press up or down to move the courser back and fourth or to correct a mistake.
7. Press ENTer
8. Press Up for next entry
9. Repeat steps 3 through 8 until all are entered.

Again, I urge you to download the programming software. It is free. you will need to pay for the cable, but it is well worth it. Tjis will go a long ways toward helping you learn how your scanner works and about trunking.

Really like Win96, thuogh I don't get "display" but the TG when down-loading from the RR
Database. Would really prefer Display, though perhaps I should post this in Progamming/Software the link seemed to be here...
