Looking to see if anyone knows how to enable Fine tuning in FM Mode. Easy to do in other modes but FM seems to be elusive.

Do you have the User Manual (with the blue highlights on the cover)? You can download it from Kenwood's website.

From page 12-1 in the User Manual:

Fine tuning is not available in FM mode. In FM mode, you can adjust the Step Size down to 5 kHz which is as low as it goes.

yes I did see that in the manual but was hoping for a modification option besides having to buy a baofeng. I know the MARS/CAP Mod can be done.

Fine tuning on FM would not serve any purpose. In any case the fine tuning is for receive only. Baofeng is type accepted only for amateur bands. MARS/CAP mods are bogus. They are just an excuse to open up radios which are not type accepted outside the ham bands. The NTIA which governs the federal radio spectrum currently lists no ham radios as type accepted for CAP. None. This is because CAP is narrowband and moving to P25. Using a handheld on MARS frequencies is unlikely even if you were a MARS member.

With me being a MARS member, I have to ask what exactly do you mean by that? I just want to make sure that incorrect information is not disseminated in that post. But first, I need to know if you are saying that globally, any transceiver that a "MARS modification" is performed on, that in most cases you would not be permitted to use that transceiver on officially authorized MARS frequencies in the various services? TIA for clarifying what you are saying! Dave

Folks, the thread is about the fine tuning function on the Kenwood TH-D74 and the OP's question has been answered. Please take the MARS debate elsewhere.
