Kenwood: TH-K20A

Last year I picked up a pair of Kenwood TH-k20A radios ...
I received a software program and a PC cable to make programming a little easier.
I've got the program (MCP-1A) running and trying to communicate to the portables on Comm 3

However no matter what I try (READ/SEND) I keep receiving an error message:
"Communications timeout error"

Not sure what it means ???
Suggestions???

A search for TH-k20A software took me straight to Kenwoods amateur radio software. Cut/paste below.

The software you're using is only good for
TM-281A / TM-281E / TM-481A
TM-271A / TM-271E / TM-471A
TH-K2AT / TH-K2E / TH-K2ET / TH-K4AT / TH-K4E

Like fkimble said you need 5a. Free from Kenwood on their website.
