Yesderday around 3:20 pm my 7 year old son went disibearing here in Healdsburg sonoma county California four about 4 hr.
As I went driving around Town looking for him my ex Wife stayed at home talking to the Police. They set up the command post in front of her house, Sonoma sheriff search and rescue came up to.
While I was around driving I could listen to them coordinating everything and had not to call every second to see if they found him or not.
I also learned there where a few people out looking for him who they heard it on there Scanner, without the open communication in the air it would have taken longer to get the word out.
by nightfall Police Firefighter and Neighbors, People on Scanner spread the word. So 3 hours into it we had 1/3 of the town and over half of the school my son goes to looking for him.
thankfully everything turned out OK. He was 1 1/2 Block away at some friends of him.
Apparently they did not hear the Police knocking on there Door.
Tears are still rolling down my Face tonight as I write this.

Thank you Healdsburg Police
Thank you Felow Scanners
Thank you Sonoma Sheriff
Thank you Neighbors
Thank you Saint Johns Parents
Thank you Healdsburg

I'm glad to hear that your son was found safe and sound. I was with Sonoma County S.O. SAR for 25 years until I retired in 2005. I'm glad to hear that they are still doing the same good job as when I was part of the organization.

Stefan,

I'm glad to hear things turned out so well for you. I can't put myself into your shoes as I was not able to have children. My imagination and empathy are sufficient to say I would have been so panicked and churning up inside to the point of not being able to function. This in spite of having a fair amount of emergency response experience. Love that kid to death but tell him to call the next time!

Fred

The first one to two hrs I was doing fine. Driving around looking for him, listen to the Police and Fire and So doing there thing on the scanner.
the more time past, raining and getting darker it hit me more and more.
Not till I stopped at the ex house seeing all the people, the police and SO , it really sank in.
And I was getting closer to loosing it.
As I went back to my House to check to see if he made it there and to change my clothing I got the phone call he was back.
Not till I got back to there house and sitting with him in his Room I finally broke down.
Slowly I'm getting better, I'm less and less break down thinking about it.
Thank you everyone for your kind words .
Stefan

Thank God!

I have four children (Mike - 14, Susannah -13, Hannah - 5, and "Jody" - 4). I worry about them often. When I go to pick the older ones up from school (or their friend's house if they walked there), if I can't find them almost immediately, the anxiety starts right away.

It's a different world we live in today. When I was a kid, I used to be outside until after dark all throughout the neighborhood. I barely even let my kids out of my sight, let alone outside without knowing exactly where they are.

Thank you Jesus, everything turned out OK!
