i live in sedalia, about 15 minutes from whiteman airforce base,i was wandering if my bc92xlt is capable of retrieving those transmisions and what i go about doing to start
If you want to listen to the ground operations you will need something that can do P-25 trunking but about 75% of it is encrypted. There is still stuff to listen to but you wont hear the Security Police or most of the units command operations due to the encryption.
If you want to listen to the aircraft while in the air then you will need something that can get 225-400 in AM and 138-150 in both AM and FM. This is where most of the military action is coming out of Whiteman.
You can hear civil aviation with the radio you have. Often the transient aircraft will be on the civie side especially if its a tanker or cargo types.
Here are a few you should be able to hear with the radio you have.
Depends on how far away you are from the base. I'm 2 miles SW of the tower and sometimes have problems hearing them on my portable w a duckie when they are around the base. Do a quick search from 118-136 and see if your unit picks anything up. If you don't hear much then you will probably not have good results from the base as the aircraft are usually lower as they approach the airfield. Let us know how it goes.
Also it wouldnt hurt to do a few searchs from 406.0-420.0 / 138.0-144.0 / 148.0-150.0 and 162.0-174.0 to search for users that are not on the base trunked system.
