Anyone by chance know the FD/EMS frequencies in The Villages and surrounding areas?

From what I saw previously in the database is that they're encrypted. Is this true? Is there any I can listen to?

I've recently moved into town and trying to get aquatinted to the area.

The RR DB is not in the habit of posting knowingly false information. If someone submitted that it was encrypted, and there's no opposing supporting evidence...

Everything listed in the database for Villages is fully encrypted and therefore can't be monitored (mode "DE")

Villages Community Development District

DEC HEX Mode Alpha TagDescriptionTag
15035dfDEVCDDVillages VCDDOther
15045e0DEVCDDVillages VCDDOther
15085e4DEVCDD Ch 4VCDD Patrol Ch.4Security
15095e5DEVCDD Ch 5VCDD Patrol Ch.5Security

Sumter County Sheriff and every Mode "D" talkgroup is "in the clear" and can be monitored

So the Villages covers areas of 3 counties and therefore could be taking up parts of 3 different UHF trunked systems. No UHF/VHF standalone traffic to look forward to for monitoring, otherwise.

- Lake County is mostly enc for for fire/EMS but you might be able to some hear limited traffic on TGs.
Public Safety Interoperable Communications Network (PSIC) Trunking System, Various, Florida -> Go to Lake County EMS and/or Lady Lake sections.... but don't count on hearing too much.
- Sumter County is somewhat less enc, except for the fact nearly all Villages district comms are enc.
Sumter County Public Safety System Trunking System, Bushnell, Florida -> Go to Villages Community Development District and/or Sumter County section. Good luck.
- Marion County, not much of a difference from other two counties, some enc, almost ALL of Villages are enc.
Marion County Public Safety Trunking System, Ocala, Florida -> Go to Marion County Fire/Rescue. Hope this was worth the try, etc.

Bottom line? Since about 2013, you have not been able to hear much around the Villages as per other site posts I'm seeing.

HTH,
Byron

edit - Whiskey and I posted around the same time, but you should have your answers by this point...

And drunk golf cart crashes. I do portable x-ray in nursing homes for a living, at any given time there is 3-4 older folk in rehab at these places in The Villages due to golf cart related injuries.

What about monitoring the Fla Turnpike and the local prison while living in The Villages near Wildwood?

Yep, I have the correct services turned on. RR says Sumter SO is not encrypted but nothing heard, not even EMS or FD. Guess I’ll look for amateur repeaters next.

One of the issues with zip code programming is that the scanner sometimes scans so many systems that it misses conversations. It might be checking a quiet, even unused system while a short conversation is taking place elsewhere. Try reducing the distance at which the scanner checks for systems so that your scanning is truly local. Like 0-5 miles. Also, Sumter FD is encrypted, so you wouldn't hear them.

So I have learned, nothing to scan here. All I have heard is a prison. So I found several amateur repeaters that I programmed into my handheld. I’ll be playing with HF next since propagation is on the rise.

Thanks for your help.

The DB is wrong, most everything in Sumter is encrypted.

An update to Sumter was processed on the same day as your post. Please keep in mind that the RR Db is only as accurate as the submissions received - no one in the current FL Db team are local to Sumter --- so listener input is essential.

It is difficult to have listener input when there is nothing to hear in Sumter Co.

Sad is a good description. I hear sirens a lot but no clue what is going on. Ham repeaters are quiet, not much usage.
