• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Ok, we have the serious thread (Scariest things heard on the radio) and the laugh thread (funniest things heard)....now, how about things that just make you smile when you hear them on the radio:

-- I was on a ground search one day north of a small nearby town. A 3y/o girl wandered off from her parents. EVERYONE was there: IEMA, ISP, McLean County ESDA, Logan County ESDA Search/Rescue, LCSO Mounted Search/Rescue (I think), and a slew of others. Well, the group I was in just got back to Incident Command and we heard the radios crack to life "We need an ambulance down here....we have the girl...she's fine. Scared...but fine". That made everyone's day.

-- This one wasn't one I heard, except through the grapevine. The 911 Coordinator for the county I grew up in was (and still is) in to making sure children know how to dial 911 in an emergency. Well, one day a call went into dispatch for a medical emergency. A scared little girl is on the line. She tells the dispatcher her address, name, everything that she needs to say. At the end, she told the dispatcher "Tell Mr. Fletcher, I remembered" (name changed of course). That is just one of the things that make it worth while, knowing when everything comes out as it should.

What stories that make you smile do you all have?

Anytime there is a call involving a child that sounds really bad and you get the report that it's actually minor...that always makes me feel good!
