Can we post our favorite Road and Highway Department frequencies and PL tones now that winter is once again upon us and it has already snowed in Sussex county. Thanks !!

Please explain the (Best in the State) next to the NJ Turnpike frequency. If that means what I think it means, your mistaken, they are 2nd best to the GSP maintenance crew, grin...

Sure I'll explain, Turnpike complete weather updates on that frequency before, during and after the storm, hourly storm updates, turnpike begins operations when the first flake falls. Hourly storm updates until the last flake is clean up.

Parkway radio channels, No Weather updates, No Hourly updates and I have driven the parkway when it snow they hardly clean the road.

Turnpike Vs Parkway snow wise - The Turnpike wins hands down.

PS.. I don't work for the turnpike.

Your right, to each his own.... Snow plows or Monmouth Park Racetrack "Breeder's Cup". While on the road listening to the plows can save you time, or avoid accidents.

Before you miss understand me, the word grin... was at the end of my post. Both roads do an excellent job, both give weather reports before, and during the storm. Each road has different obstacles and terrain, it's really hard to compare them.

i listen to snowplows and i even listen to the town dept of works when theyre busy digging a hole at the town cemetery... if its scannable im there!

Jersey City Incinerator Authority does the snow removal in JC they are on 155.085 repeated pl 114.8

my favorites to monitor are:

Union County Public Works/Road Dept. 453.500 (very active)

Roselle Park DPW 151.040 (they used this frequency last winter for snow removal, however the dpw hasn't used it since, they may have received cell phones since then)

Cranford DPW 154.055 (also a simplex frequency used in some school in Kenilworth)

The above frequencies are for the plows only. If you want to listen to supervisors and such then you have to monitor the NJ 800MHz trunk system.

When troopers report roads to be plowed NJSP uses STATECOM to talk to DOT.

The segment you are refering to is a small part of the the Authority's New York Region (as shown in http://www.nysthruway.gov/maps/01-15.shtml ). Their channels are:

453.425R (97.4) Channel A (simulcast with B)
453.525R (97.4) Channel B (simulcast with A)
458.525 (97.4) Channel 5

As far as I know the PIP+ uses 37.9400 . I don't know if Alpine helps them but if they do, they are on 154.1000 PL 151.4. I think the Tappan Zee bridge uses 453.425 or 453.525 depending on where they are located on the bridge!
