• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

WOW! That Aussie cop is just plain nuts! IMPRESSIVE, but nuts just the same.

Aussie? YouTube and Google Video said South Africa. After reading a few articles on their carjack squads, I believe it.

I know that SAPS drive BMWs for their highway patrol, and pretty sure that AUS drives their domestic Holdens and Fords with a few mitsus and subarus thrown in.

You got me, I did not even read the title of the vid, I was just going by the accent which sounded pretty Aussie. I would have never guessed SA. SA accents tend to sound a bit "Germanic" in nature (since most of White SA traces their roots to German settlers of the 1800's).

As for the vid, I still would have believed that to be something an Aussie would do as opposed to a S. African:lol:

Dutch, actually. Not that there is a lot of difference, lol. But since my family was South African, I have to chime in for accuracy's sake.

I suggest you do your homework on the Boer War if you want to get your South African (Afrikaner) heritage right and separate English from Afrikaans. Whaaaat? Not a lot of difference between German and Dutch??? Oh boy, you got a lotta learnin' ta do.

Heh, some of their cops are pretty hardcore.

Depends on if they are a Boer/Afrikaaner or a Soutpiel/rooineck (English heritage, but dont translate that  )

English speakers will have perfect Queen's English, and the Afrikaans speakers zound like he has "diplomatic immunity" These guys have mainly Dutch, French Hugenot, and then German ancestry. Most will "sound" like they are From Aus to people used to hearing American accents although I couldnt tell the difference unless someone told me. I work with a few, but not enough to recognize the difference. The Germans colonized what is now Namibia in the 1800s. The Dutch were in the cape since the 1600s.

I am currently writing a book on the economics of the region and will be traveling there in November.
