• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

OPP has more money than Timmins Police?

thats kinda funny how timmins police can be so advanced, but yet the OPP is still digital, that really makes no sense,so the OPP will head that way soon then right

The contract with Fleetnet is up in 2013, 2014... something like that. I'd be willing to bet the next contract will include encryption. That's assuming that the world doesn't end in 2012 though haha.

The rumour I've heard is that Fleetnet will be upgraded to a true 9600 P25 trunking system, meaning no more analog. Undoubtedly this will also mean encryption for all. It would be very trivial for BMR to implement a policy where all TGs must be encrypted. Cost is next to nothing when amorized over 10 years.
